Is Belkyra™ Right for You?
Belkyra™ (called Kybella in the U.S.) is an injectable treatment that makes use of a powerful active ingredient, deoxycholic acid, to dissolve fat beneath the skin. Deoxycholic acid is found naturally in the digestive system and works by breaking down dietary fats so that they may be metabolized by the body. Belkyra™ has been established as safe and effective for subcutaneous use, which led to its development as a cosmetic treatment. Presently, Belkyra™ is indicated for use beneath the chin, treating "submental fullness" – commonly called a double chin.
Belkyra™ is typically tolerated well.
If you are bothered by the appearance of your double chin and feel that it hasn’t responded sufficiently to changes in diet or exercise, you may be a good candidate for treatment. Belkyra™ effectively targets and dissolves fat, however it cannot reduce loose skin
The Belkyra™ Experience at Ancaster Dermatology Centre
Belkyra™ outpatient treatments begin with a trained practitioner cleansing your skin to remove oil, makeup, or other impurities that could interfere with the procedure. If necessary, a topical analgesic or local anesthesia injection will be provided. A gridded pattern overlay helps guide the injections to ensure even distribution for balanced results. While multiple injections are required, each one lasts only seconds. You can anticipate your appointment will take approximately 30 minutes. Following your visit, you may return to your usual activities as soon as you would like. Common side effects include swelling and bruising. Applying an ice pack for 10 to 15 minutes after the treatment may alleviate discomfort. You may experience mild tenderness and numbness for one to four weeks post injection. Depending on the severity of your condition, we may recommend a series of treatments to adequately address your needs. Although the results of Belkyra™ are not immediate, you may begin to see your results developing in the weeks following each treatment session. The better you are able to maintain a steady weight, the better your long term results.
